The Confessional Presbyterian

I recently subscribed to The Confessional Presbyterian and also purchased the four back issues. They are wonderful. I highly recommend them, especially to pastors in the Presbyterian and Reformed tradition. General Editor Chris Coldwell opens the inaugural volume (Vol. 1, 2005) writing:

In a day when it appears that Presbyterians are drifting further and further from the doctrines of the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms, we hope The Confessional Presbyterian journal will provide a forum for inter-denominational discussion among Presbyterians, wishing to defend closer adherence to these old standards of biblical Christianity. To facilitate such an environment we have assembled a fine board of contributing editors from several denominations (see page 184). Our goal, as hopefully reflected in this first issue, is to publish a range of theological, practical and historical material, supportive of the Westminster Standards, while allowing for courteous discussion where disagreements may exist. Our hope is to publish one volume annually (2).

Here's the list of contributing editors from page 184:

Dr. Richard E. Bacon (Amer. RPC)
Dr. W. Gary Crampton (RPCGA)
Dr. J. Ligon Duncan, Ph.D. (PCA)
John T. Dyck (BPC)
Dr. David W. Hall, Ph.D. (PCA)
R. Sherman Isbell (FCSC)
Ray B. Lanning (ARPC)
John R. Muether (OPC)
Thomas G. Reid (RPCNA)
Dr. Frank J. Smith (CRPC)
Wayne Sparkman M.A.R. M.Div. (PCA)
Alan Strange (OPC)
C.N. Willborn, Ph.D. (PCA)

I see you received your box in the mail today also. It looks impressive and seems to be worth the 55 bucks I paid for the first 5 issues. We are dealing with a 7th day adventist in who is married to our pianist right now so the sabbath articles are the ones I am focusing on right now.

Yes, I did get them today Kelly. I'm starting at the beginning. I hope to plow thorough them by the New Year. They are very handsomely bound, don't you think. And after perusing the lists of article titles, I am pumped about reading them. Let me know how your study of the Sabbath goes. I've been studying that doctrine for the past year and now hold the view of the Westminster Standards.

Square bound, nice weight paper (which I assume and hope is acid free), print is clear. I did notice that the first 4 volumes use a single colour tone for the cover image, while the 5th one (Calvin) looks like 2-4 colour art.

As for Sabbath studies, I will let you know when we get through them. I made a slight typo in my original post. The 7th day adventist is a non-member who has been attending for 20 years and his wife is a member of Grace PCA and is our pianist. We have had one meeting with the Adventist and a "scholar" friend of his. It was interesting to see the differences in person, at least once we got past the german higher criticism the "scholar" kept trying to put out. Lower criticism I am down with, Higher, not so much so.
