COMPATIBILIST MIDDLE KNOWLEDGE?

Some time back a friend emailed me about Dr. Bruce A. Ware's adherence to a doctrine called Compatibilist Middle Knowledge. I didn't have time to research the issue at the time, but Paul Helm did recently. He posted on it today over at Helm's Deep.

"The essence of faith consists in a due ascription of glory to God (Rom. 4:20). This we cannot attain to without the manifestation of those divine excellencies to us in which he is glorious. Now we have in the Bible--especially in the life of Jesus--something so good that we believe it is good enough even for you good people.' Such is modern preaching. It is heard every Sunday in thousands of pulpits. But it is entirely futile. Even our Lord did not call the righteous to repentance, and probably we shall be no more successful than He. . . .
