WORDS

My mom tells me I spoke my first word at seven months. It was "button."

I have always loved words. While most of my friends were grimacing their way through seventh and eight grade English, I was all smiles. The Bleckley County School System introduced students to English grammar and syntax in the seventh and eighth grades. My teachers were Ms. Wiley and Mr. Thompson. I'll never forget them. I sat under fine professional teachers prior to them, but they were the first to demonstrate both professionalism and enthusiasm. It was the latter quality that made all the difference. Their love for words was infectious. What I learned from them has been invaluable.

If you, like me, appreciate the right and artful use of words, I encourage you to check out The Bushwhacker, the English-Writing blog of Stephanie Byrd. Stephanie is an English wiz on staff at Park Cities Presbyterian Church. Once every week or so she offers posts to help writers with English grammar and syntax. She's definitely professional, but even better, she's enthusiastic (and humerous). Today's post is Picking pronouns. Check it out.
